Spindle


Spindle is a floor lamp that can be shifted by moving the slider to create a variety of light forms. The 3D twist of the strip creates a graceful curve, allowing the light to wrap around the stem like a spinning yarn, with a strong sense of freedom and tension in its natural shape.

As a derivative of Spindle, Circ-spindle changes the light effect by moving the slider to rotate the light plate.

The project start with playing with rattan.





The form of the rattan changes as the fixed point is moved inwards.

The form of the rattan adapts based on the placement of its anchor points.
The space formed by the rattan and the stick changes when the fixed point is moved.



Rattan is prone to ageing and consequent quality problems. It is not suitable for industrial production. So in the next step the rattan is replaced by a steel strap.



As the slider moves, the light’s form and projection area shift in response.

By moving the slider, the light panel rotates, and the illumination range changes accordingly.
